Maria da Rocha Gonçalves

The portuguese violin and violist Maria da Rocha Gonçalves plays mostly new and experimental music. She studied at the Lisbon Conservatory (ESML) and Aveiro University, as well as did an internship program at Klangzeitort - Institut fur Neue Musik der UdK Berlin und Hanns Eisler. She was part of Orquestra Classica do Centro and Orquestura Filarmonia das Beiras and co-founded the ensembles Quarteto Indigo, Nova Orquestra de Lisboa and Minkla Streichquartett. She also played with ensembles for new music in festivals such as Münchener Biennalle and Warsaw Autumn. She gives value to improvisation and compostion as a collaborative process - for example, the piece “Morganic” in which she explored dance/movement with Kollektiv Transit and the Soundtheatre piece “Coisas” with Andre Bartetzki, where she dedicated to the interaction with electronic music and video.
