Maria Karamoutsiou

Maria Karamoutsiou

I am theatre maker, performer, and musician. In my work I see the opportunity to negotiate socio-political issues in a personal way. I explore themes of identity, belonging and gender, focusing on the relationship between body and (public) space, as well as the question of representation and oppression of the human body. My performative experiments include sound, voice, movement, and language. To perform is for me a process of learning, empowerment, and vulnerability. The biographical narratives are at the center of this process.

I studied Drama at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and classical piano at the Conservatory of Northern Greece. I also completed a Master's degree in Theatre Pedagogy at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. After several years working in public theaters, 2022, I co-founded InterFem Collective e.V.  an intersectional feminist association that aims to empower migrant, refugee, queer and BIPOC FLINTA* folks through combining artistic expression and activism. Now I am attending a training course on choreography at the Berlin Career College of the UDK.
