Bill Elgart

William Spencer (Bill) Elgart (*1942 in Cambridge, Massachusetts) studied at the Berklee School of Music and Boston Conservatory in the early 1960s.
His artistic activities include collaborations with renowned musicians such as Paul Bley, Carla Bley, Gary Peacock, Kenny Wheeler, Dave Holland, Charlie Mariano, Lee Konitz, David Friedman, Barre Philips, John Taylor, Tomasz Stanko, Sheila Jordan, Rudi Mahal, Henning Sieverts and many others, as well as numerous radio and television appearances. He also worked for many years as a theater musician and percussionist at the Münchner Kammerspiele. Bill Elgart's musical output is rounded off by around 70 recordings.
From 1991, he taught jazz percussion and rhythm interpretation at the Hermann-Zilcher Conservatory in Würzburg. He has been a professor of jazz percussion at the Würzburg University of Music since 2001.
