Lucio Capece – Sampler Isla S2400

Name Change is a band consisting of Neo Hülcker and Stellan Veloce.
Founded on friendship, fun and pattern shirts, it combines improvised experiments with noise, acoustic instruments (zyther, harmonicas, pipes...) and synthetic sounds as well as "a cappella" episodes or other musical plot twists.

New Hemispheres Ratios is a piece for 8 tracks sampler Isla S2400. Cello, bass clarinet sounds, sine-saw tones and pulses by Lucio Capece
In Pythagorean intonation, ratio describes physical and mathematical ways of understanding intervals. If you take a certain polyrhythmic structure as a starting point, which has a certain ratio, and then accelerate it, you get a pitch interval that corresponds to this ratio. And on the other sense, if you take an interval in which tones relate following a certain ratio and you slow it down, you get a polyrhythm with the same numbers of pulses as the two numbers of the ratios sounding in a same period of time. Example: 9/8 ratio: 9/8 rhythm: 2nd interval. I research, compose and play an acousmatic piece based in Cello-Bass Clarinet sounds and Saw and Sine tones and pulses.
The Cello sounds have been commissioned to an accurate Just Intonation player, the Bass Clarinet sounds recorded by Lucio Capece, and the Sines Saw tooth tones-pulses are produced following exact mathematical calculations, with a Supercollider specific Just Intonation patch. The sounds are performed in 8 independent voices that are amplified via four or 8 independent speakers, by a Sampler Isla S2400. The Isla Sampler is a last generation device produced following the construction structure of the legendary E-MU 1200, a sampler very popular in the 90 ́s, and played mainly in the Hip Hop scene, specially by legendary J Dilla
In the piece, the same number of ratios form the basis of a poly rhythmic structure, as do the pitches, which then form the intervals of overlapping sequences.
