8Y7

8Y7 (seven and eight) is a duo project since 2025 by Isabel Anders (piano, composition) with Lázara Rosell Albear (drums, pocket trumpet).

The two half-Cuban artists share an early passion for free improvisation and an interest in exploring different genres. The program includes Cuban rhythms, composed gestures/ elements and free improvisation. The title and concept are inspired by Afro-Cuban Yoruba mythology and the Orishas, which are understood as deities in this context. This tradition includes a form of theatrical staging with specific and invented instruments, drum patterns, chants, as well as movements.

In addition to Cuban music and culture as a shared background, various influences such as classical music, jazz, free jazz, and other inspirations of both artists come together.
