Zeynep Ayşe Hatipoğlu
A cellist, composer, improviser, and researcher. Her main interest in music lies in moving between genres and experimenting with ways to explore non-genre specification. Her background is rooted in growing up in Istanbul and engaging with both European and Turkish makam music, and later improvised, contemporary, electroacoustic, and experimental music. Her work focuses on performance, composition, collaborative projects, sound installations, socially and culturally engaged projects, and creative music education. She has released several albums, to name some of them: Birinci Hane with the SAVT improvisation trio (with Merve Salgar and Elif Canfeza Gündüz); V. Dialogues with the Klank.ist Ensemble (with Eda Er, Aslı Kobaner, and Fulya Uçanok); Nine Stages of Not Arriving and Wandering Rocks (2023) with iKKi Duo (with Fulya Uçanok); the solo album Deep Love/Play; and her composition was included in the compilation album String Layers by 7k! Berlin Records in 2020. She also organises concert series, including na-mute-na (Istanbul, 2016); the Bonding Sounds Series (Berlin, 2024, with Merve Salgar); and the Friday Evening Improvisations at Cemetery Chapels (Berlin, 2025–,with Ulrike Ruf), and is a member of the Richten25 team, an artist-run project space in Berlin dedicated to experimental music and art. She has been based in Berlin since 2024.
